Eight Lots School House
54 Eight Lots Road
History
Built before 1773 on land deed to the Town in 1799, the Eight Lots School House is believed to be one of the oldest one-room school houses in the United States still standing on its original foundation.
The School serviced children of the Eight Lots region, so named for the eight 40-acre tracts of land apportioned to original settlers.
The families that settled and farmed this land were some of the more famous Sutton forefathers.
The school house functioned until 1896. It reopened in 1911 until its final closing in 1918.
In 1990, the Eight Lots School Association deeded the school house to the Sutton Historical Society to be responsible for its preservation and maintenance.
2015 marked the completion of a 3-year extensive restoration.
